Mamdani Unveils 'Vision Zero Reimagined' Plan to Tackle NYC Traffic Deaths

Mayor Zohran Mamdani released a 104-page, 10-year plan called 'Vision Zero Reimagined' on September 15, 2026, aiming to eliminate traffic deaths in New York City. The strategy includes lowering speed limits to 15 mph near schools, installing speed-capping devices in repeat offenders' vehicles, and redesigning 1,000 intersections annually with physical barriers. While the plan builds on existing safety measures, it introduces new proposals like pedestrian-only districts and a mobile wallet for low-income transit users, though many initiatives require state legislative approval.
