Probation-bound 21-year-old arrested in downtown Tucson mass shooting

Twenty-one-year-old David Leroy French was arrested after a mass shooting in downtown Tucson that injured nine people; records show he was on a four-year probation for a 2024 aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Surveillance footage identified him as the shooter, and he was shot by an officer during the arrest. Ten people were hospitalized, including French, who now faces nine counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, nine counts of aggravated assault, and discharging a firearm at a structure.
