"Collaborative Efforts in Healthcare to Raise Colon Cancer Awareness"

Healthcare systems in Baton Rouge are collaborating to raise awareness for colon cancer during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Dr. Justin Brown, who lost his father to colon cancer, now leads the Cancer Metabolism Research Program at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, focusing on survivorship and prevention. He has partnered with Dr. Victor Lin at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to enroll patients in a study for colon cancer treatment. The collaboration also includes awareness and education events, with a focus on early screening, as the recommended screening age has been lowered to 45. An event called Colorectal Cancer Day at the Capitol will be held on March 28 to discuss the disease and prevention methods.
