A Black-led running group, TrailblazHers Run Co., has filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against the Newton Police Department and the Boston Athletic Association, alleging racial profiling and harassment of Black spectators during the 2023 Boston Marathon. The lawsuit seeks to enjoin racial profiling, redress for emotional distress, and trauma caused by the incident. The Boston Athletic Association issued an apology last year and stated that they are focused on creating a welcoming environment for all participants and spectators. The lawsuit claims that Black spectators were targeted and separated from the course by police, while white spectators engaging in similar activities were not interfered with.
