Despite attempts to win them over, the father continues to ignore her and she is not welcomed into their home. The columnist advises patience and suggests that the girlfriend seek therapy to cope with her parents' rejection. The burden of managing the family conflict falls on the adult children, who may choose to maintain relationships through avoidance, acceptance, or setting boundaries.
