New Delhi has been converted into a heavily fortified zone amid nationwide protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. The demonstrations, which demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, have triggered a massive security crackdown, including the detention of opposition leaders and youth activists. While the government denies bias in the removal of over 130 million names from electoral rolls, critics allege the move disproportionately disenfranchises minorities to benefit the ruling BJP. Despite severe restrictions, including bans on gatherings and suspended transport services, protesters continue to mobilize, signaling that the unrest will persist until the election chief steps down.
