"Argentine Saints and Clashes: Pope Francis' Meeting with Controversial Figures"

Pope Francis criticized "radical individualism" in society while meeting with Argentine pilgrims ahead of the canonization of Mama Antula, an 18th century Argentine laywoman known for ministering to the poor and preserving Jesuit spirituality. He praised her willingness to spread the faith, even in the face of adversity, and highlighted the importance of her clandestine efforts. The pope's comments come ahead of his first meeting with Argentina’s new libertarian president, Javier Milei, who has advocated for loosening labor laws and the sale of vital organs.
