The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on August 15th by the Catholic Church, commemorating the belief that Mary's body and soul ascended to heaven after her death. Celebrations include attending Mass, participating in processions, and observing fireworks. The feast is widely celebrated around the world, with notable celebrations in Cleveland and Buffalo. It is a holy day of obligation for Catholics, although the obligation is dissolved if the feast day falls on a Monday or Saturday. While the assumption of Mary is not directly referenced in the Bible, it is indirectly mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Popular prayers dedicated to Mary on this day include the Hail Mary and the Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima.
