Pope Francis Sparks Controversy with Ukraine 'White Flag' Remarks

Pope Francis' recent comments calling for Ukraine to have "the courage of the white flag" and negotiate before things get worse has sparked anger and disappointment among Ukrainians, especially Ukrainian Catholics. The Vatican has been scrambling to control the damage, with the Holy See press spokesman attempting to clarify that the term "white flag" was meant to signify a cessation of hostilities rather than surrender. However, the Ukrainian government and Ukrainian Catholics remain unconvinced, expressing their determination to defend freedom and dignity. The Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church issued a statement rejecting the "white-flag" advice and emphasizing the historical context of Russian aggression towards Ukraine.
