Woman Seriously Injured in Sydney Harbor Shark Attack

A woman was seriously injured in the first shark attack in Sydney Harbor in 15 years while swimming off a wharf at Elizabeth Bay, with the predator likely identified as a bull shark. The victim, 29-year-old Lauren O'Neill, was seen trying to climb a ladder out of the water with a serious leg injury, and was rushed to the hospital in stable condition. Scientists have noted an increase in shark activity in the harbor, particularly during low light periods, and have tagged numerous bull sharks in the area. This incident follows a fatal shark attack in Sydney in 2022, and experts caution that interactions with sharks in enclosed waterways are rare but can be tragic.
