U.S. Attitudes on LGBTQ+ Issues Slip From Peak Amid GOP Shift

Gallup's May 2026 survey shows U.S. attitudes toward LGBTQ+ issues plateauing and modestly retreating after two decades of gains: 65% support legal same-sex marriage (down from the early 2020s peak), 62% view gay/lesbian relations as morally acceptable (lowest since 2016), and 38% find changing one’s gender morally acceptable (down 8 points).
