House Committee to Probe Transition of Sports Rights to Streaming

The House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing on the impact of streaming services on sports media rights, with a focus on how major sports leagues negotiate deals with broadcasting networks and streaming platforms. The recent NFL playoff game streamed exclusively on Peacock has raised concerns about the future of postseason streaming and the NFL's broadcast antitrust exemption. While the NFL's streaming move may not be the main focus of the hearing, it could prompt Congress to explore potential legislation that may impact the current model of collective rights sales and revenue sharing among teams.
