FBI Detains Los Angeles Realtor at LAX for Alleged Surveillance of Taiwanese President's Son

Federal agents arrested Wanying 'Heather' Zhang, a 34-year-old California realtor, at Los Angeles International Airport on October 4, 2026. Prosecutors allege Zhang acted as an unregistered agent for the Chinese government by surveilling Ting-Yu Lai, the son of Taiwan's president, in Seattle. Zhang faces charges for traveling to the U.S. to photograph the target's home and family, allegedly reporting back to handlers in Beijing.
