xAI sues Grok user over CSAM deepfakes, seeks damages and injunction

Elon Musk’s xAI has filed a lawsuit against a South Carolina man, Terry Wayne Harwood, alleging he used the Grok AI chatbot to bypass safeguards, alter nonconsensual images, and generate and distribute CSAM deepfakes. Harwood, who was arrested on eight felony charges, allegedly created or modified images with Grok without consent. xAI says the actions exposed it to significant legal risk and reputational damage, and it is seeking damages, legal costs, and an injunction to block Harwood from using Grok or creating an xAI account.
