Calls for Recall of Kia and Hyundai Cars Increase Amidst Rising Thefts.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is calling for a federal recall of Kias and Hyundais made between 2011-2022 due to their vulnerability to theft. The cars lack engine immobilizers and have easily-bypassed ignition switches, making them easy targets for thieves. More than 7,000 Kias and Hyundais were stolen in Chicago in 2022 alone. Raoul and officials from 18 other states signed a letter asking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall the affected cars, citing safety concerns and the manufacturers' failure to adequately address the issue.
