Hyundai and Kia are recalling nearly 3.4 million vehicles in the U.S. due to the risk of engine compartment fires. The recall is prompted by a potential fluid leak in the anti-lock brake control module, which can cause an electrical short and result in fires while the vehicles are parked or being driven. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside until repairs are completed. The automakers will replace the anti-lock brake fuse at no cost to owners. Hyundai reported 21 fires and Kia reported 10 fires in the affected vehicles. The Center for Auto Safety raised concerns about the companies not fixing the underlying leak problem and the delay in notifying owners.
