Chipotle's Earnings Soar Despite Passing on Minimum Wage Hike to Customers

Chipotle will pass on the upcoming minimum wage hike in California to customers by increasing menu prices. Starting in April 2024, fast food workers in California will be eligible for a minimum wage of $20 per hour. Chipotle, which already pays a starting wage of $17 in the state, estimates that the minimum wage increase will add between 2.5% and 3% to its overall labor costs. While the exact level of pricing hasn't been disclosed, the company expects a mid- to high-single-digit price increase for customers. Chipotle has already raised prices multiple times in the past two years due to inflation and rising ingredient costs.
