Google slashes employee perks and benefits to cut costs.

Google is cutting costs and reducing perks for employees in response to diminished digital ad revenues and economic fears. The company will close some snack bars and cafeterias on low-traffic days, and non-engineering workers will receive Chromebooks instead of higher-end laptops. The perk cuts are in part a response to the "new hybrid workweek," and will include moving around fitness classes and shuttle services to better meet demand. Google is also negotiating with suppliers for better equipment rates, hiring slowly, and getting more computing power out of its servers and data centers.
