Ford has recalled approximately 238,000 Explorers from 2020 to 2022 due to a defect that could cause the vehicles to roll away if the parking brake is not engaged. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that a fracture in the rear axle horizontal mounting bolt could cause the drive shaft to disconnect, resulting in a loss of drive power or a vehicle rollaway. Ford has previously addressed the risk of rollaway through software updates, but this recall requires inspections of all affected vehicles. No accidents or injuries related to the defect have been reported, and letters notifying owners will be sent in November.
