The US Postal Service is replacing 49,000 antiquated arrow locks with electronic versions and installing 12,000 hardened blue collection boxes in high-risk areas to prevent robberies and mail thefts. The move comes after nearly 500 postal carriers were robbed last year, with weapons used in most of the incidents. The Postal Service is also cracking down on other ways criminals are targeting the service, including counterfeit postage and identity theft. Postal officials are implementing dual authentication for identity verification online and enhanced in-person change-of-address transactions to prevent criminals from intercepting credit cards, checks, and other financial mail.
