Global Law Enforcement Takes Down LockBit Ransomware Syndicate

The notorious ransomware provider LockBit, responsible for targeting over 2,000 systems globally including hospitals in the U.S., was taken down by law enforcement, with Russian nationals charged as part of an international plot. The FBI and its partners seized public-facing platforms used by LockBit and obtained the "keys" to unlock attacked computer systems, helping victims regain access to their data without paying a ransom. Two Russian nationals were indicted in New Jersey, joining a growing number of defendants accused of attacking American institutions as part of the LockBit scheme. This operation is part of a new approach by law enforcement to combat ransomware attacks by arming victims with tools to counter malware attacks.
