Western Digital Confirms March Cyberattack Resulted in Customer Data Breach

Western Digital has confirmed that hackers stole personal information of its online store customers, including names, billing and shipping addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, and encrypted passwords and partial credit card numbers. The company detected the breach on March 26 and disconnected its systems and services from the public internet as a precautionary measure. The hackers had demanded a ransom and threatened to retaliate if Western Digital did not comply. The company did not specify how many customers were affected.
