Prime Healthcare to suspend OB services at three Chicago-area hospitals to centralize maternal care

Prime Healthcare will suspend obstetric services at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, and Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago to consolidate maternity care, directing services to nearby centers with larger birthing programs. The company also plans Centers of Excellence for Maternal Care at Saint Mary of Nazareth in Chicago and Olympia Fields Hospital, with staff reassignments and $1 million in grants for maternal-health initiatives, as part of ongoing consolidation and prior changes at its Illinois hospitals.
