California proposes ban on popular candies containing harmful chemicals

A bill introduced in the California State Assembly seeks to ban the manufacture, sale, or distribution of food products containing red dye No. 3, titanium dioxide, potassium bromate, brominated vegetable oil, or propylparaben, which are linked to health issues. These chemicals are banned in the European Union due to scientific studies that have demonstrated significant public health harms, including increased risk of cancer, behavioral issues in children, harm to the reproductive system, and damage to the immune system. The National Confectioners Association opposes the bill, stating that chocolate and candy are safe to enjoy and that the ingredients listed in the bill have all been approved by the FDA.
