Can weight-loss medications like Ozempic help with addiction?

Patients taking weight-loss medication Ozempic and similar drugs have reported a decrease in interest in addictive behaviors like smoking and alcohol. However, drugmakers like Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly are not currently studying these drugs for addiction. Clinical trials are needed to prove the effects of these drugs on addictive behaviors, but there are few underway. Despite a large need for addiction drugs, particularly for alcohol-use disorder, they have not been a profitable market for drug companies.
