The bacteria mainly spreads by touching your face or eyes after having direct contact with someone who is infected. To prevent the spread of the bacteria, experts recommend washing your hands regularly, avoiding sharing personal items with others, and cleaning shared environments or equipment. The overall risk of infection is low, but those in healthcare facilities or nursing homes are at higher risk.
