A South Florida woman lost her eye after contracting a bacterial infection from using EzriCare Artificial Tears, which were recalled last month due to non-sterility. The woman is now suing the India-based manufacturer, Global Pharma Healthcare, which is facing several lawsuits across the country. The bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, is resistant to antibiotics and has caused nearly 70 infections and eight cases of vision loss in the US. Doctors feared the bacteria would spread to the bloodstream and threaten the woman's life.
