California court partially dismisses copyright infringement lawsuits brought by authors against OpenAI, alleging unlawful use of their books to train the ChatGPT AI tool, with claims of vicarious copyright infringement, negligence, unjust enrichment, and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act being dismissed. However, the allegation of unfair competition law violation remains. The cases will be consolidated with another suit.
