Apple Urges iPhone 16 Battery Production Shift to India

Apple is aiming to diversify its supply chain and move manufacturing out of China by sourcing batteries for its upcoming iPhone 16 from Indian factories. The company has informed component suppliers of its preference, encouraging battery manufacturers like Desay of China to establish new factories in India and asking Taiwanese supplier Simplo Technology to scale up production in the country. This move aligns with the Indian government's "Make in India" manufacturing drive and extends incentives to companies investing in mobile phones and batteries. Apple has been trying to reduce its dependence on China for manufacturing and supply chains amid trade tensions, and has been increasing production in Vietnam and India. However, suppliers still face hurdles in building up production in India due to stricter regulations on foreign investment and the country's tougher stance on China.
