FCC Takes Action to Stop Robocall Scammers

The FCC has adopted new rules to close the "lead generator" loophole that allows for unwanted robocalls. The rules require lead generators and comparison shopping websites to obtain consumer consent for robocalls and robotexts on a per-seller basis. The commission now has the authority to "red flag" certain numbers and block texts from them, while also making it illegal for telemarketing texts to be sent to numbers on the national Do Not Call Registry. Unwanted calls, including robocalls, are the FCC's top consumer complaint.
