Meta Braces for Record Privacy Fine Over Transatlantic Data Transfers.

Meta is expected to face a record privacy fine from Ireland's data protection watchdog for mishandling people's data when transferring it to the US. The size of the penalty is not yet confirmed but is expected to be more than the €746 million fine that Amazon paid in 2021. The ruling is also expected to demand that Meta's Facebook stop using standard contract clauses to move EU data to the US. The decision stems from a legal challenge filed by Austrian privacy campaigner Max Schrems over the legality of moving EU data to the US. Meta declined to comment.
