Meta's Role in Enabling Child Predators Exposed in Lawsuit

New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez has filed a lawsuit against Meta and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, accusing the company of enabling human trafficking and the distribution of child sexual abuse materials. The complaint alleges that Facebook and Instagram are "breeding grounds" for predators targeting children for trafficking, grooming, and solicitation. Meta has faced multiple investigations and lawsuits regarding child safety on its platforms, including allegations of targeting children with addictive features. The attorney general's office conducted an investigation using decoy accounts and found evidence of underage users being exposed to explicit material, unmoderated Facebook groups facilitating commercial sex, and the distribution of child pornography. Meta has stated that it has introduced proactive methods to catch and remove accounts and groups violating its child safety policies. The issue of child exploitation extends beyond Meta, with other platforms like Discord and X also struggling to address the problem.
