OpenAI Explores In-House Production of AI Chips for ChatGPT

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is reportedly considering making its own AI chips due to a shortage and high costs associated with relying on Nvidia. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has explored the possibility of entering the chip business or acquiring a chip company. Building its own AI chips would require significant investment and time. OpenAI is also in discussions with former Apple designer Jony Ive about building the "iPhone of AI." In the meantime, OpenAI remains dependent on Nvidia for its GPU needs.
