Sarah Silverman and Hollywood Writers File Lawsuit Against OpenAI and Meta for Copyright Infringement

Comedian Sarah Silverman, along with authors Christopher Golden and Richard Kadrey, has filed lawsuits against OpenAI and Meta, alleging copyright infringement. The plaintiffs claim that the companies trained their large language models on copyrighted materials, including their own works, without obtaining consent. The complaints focus on the datasets used to train ChatGPT and LLaMA, with the plaintiffs arguing that some datasets were derived from "shadow libraries" of illegally available copyrighted material. This is not the first time OpenAI has faced legal challenges over copyright infringement related to its language models.
