SpaceX Plans $100B Starbase Louisiana to Launch Starship from Pecan Island

SpaceX announced plans to build a $100 billion Starbase launch site on Louisiana's southern coast at Pecan Island, a 125,000-acre facility with five launch complexes (each with two pads) plus propellant production, power, vehicle processing and housing to support thousands of Starship flights per year to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond. The site will enable southward launches for polar-region missions, host Starmind data-center satellites, and accommodate methane-fueled Starship operations; production is slated to begin in 2027 with first launch in 2029, on land formerly owned by Exxon Mobile, with SpaceX pledging marshland and wildlife restoration.
