US Explores Nvidia's AI Chip Sales to China Amidst Trade Restrictions

The Biden administration is engaged in discussions with Nvidia regarding the permissible sales of artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. While the US Commerce Secretary, Gina Raimondo, stated that Nvidia can sell AI chips for commercial applications, she emphasized that the most advanced and high-processing power AI chips cannot be sold to Chinese firms. Raimondo warned chip companies against redesigning chips to circumvent export curbs, stating that the US government would exercise control over such actions. Nvidia has expressed its willingness to comply with the rules. Raimondo also called for legislation to address potential national security threats from foreign-owned apps like TikTok.
