Severe thunderstorms swept through West Michigan, causing damage and widespread power outages. The most affected areas were northern Kent County and Ionia County, where storm damage and power outages were prevalent. A tornado warning was issued in Kent County, and the National Weather Service will conduct damage surveys to determine the cause. Tragically, three people died in a crash during the severe weather. Downed trees, wires, and wind damage were reported across the area, with Alpine, Plainfield, and Grand Rapids townships being hit the hardest. Over 199,000 customers in multiple counties lost power, and emergency crews are actively working to restore it.
