TL;DR

Austin Butler is set to star as Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel "American Psycho" for Lionsgate. This version, scripted by Scott Z. Burns, is not a remake of the 2000 film but a fresh take on the book, potentially with a greater focus on erotic elements. Guadagnino, known for films like "Call Me by Your Name" and "Suspiria," may offer a different interpretation of the character compared to Christian Bale's portrayal in the original movie.
