Jackman has been treated for the disease several times in the past and is urging fans to practice sun safety this summer by wearing sunscreen and limiting exposure to UV rays. Basal cell carcinoma is caused by ultraviolet radiation from the sun and can appear as a firm, flesh-colored or reddish bump on areas of the body frequently exposed to the sun. People with fair skin and light coloring, a family history of the disease, and those who work outdoors and have a history of frequent sun exposure are at higher risk.
