Key points

• The 'Escher Matriarchs & Phyrr Cats' kit includes new gang champions and pets.
• The 'Underhive Journal: Escher' is the first in a new series of paperback supplements.
• The journal introduces two new gang lists: Wyld Hunts and Chymist Cults.

Background

This release follows the launch of the new Necromunda Core Set in late 2026, which introduced streamlined rules and new artwork. Previous updates in July 2026 highlighted the return of iconic characters and the availability of downloadable rules for various factions.

How outlets are covering it

Warhammer Community emphasizes the narrative and mechanical depth of the new Underhive Journals, highlighting how they provide alternate gang lists and campaign-specific content for veteran players. In contrast, secondary sources like chshyd.in focus on the broader rules overhaul, noting that the new edition simplifies combat and gang building to make the game more accessible for new players while maintaining backward compatibility for existing miniatures.

Why it matters

The introduction of Underhive Journals signals a shift toward regular, modular content updates for Necromunda, ensuring long-term engagement for the hobby. This approach allows players to customize their factions with specialized lists and lore without requiring a complete reset of their collections.

What to watch

Players can pre-order the new Core Set and Underhive Crew boxes immediately. Future Underhive Journals for other Great Houses are expected, continuing the series of paperback supplements that expand faction options and campaign content.
