Background

The couple’s pregnancy was first reported in April 2026, with Plaza sharing images of her baby bump on social media in July. Abbott publicly discussed his excitement about becoming a father in a May interview. The birth follows a difficult year for Plaza, who previously mourned the death by suicide of her estranged husband, writer-director Jeff Baena, in January 2025.

Why it matters

The arrival of the child marks a new chapter for two prominent figures in entertainment, following a period of public personal loss for Plaza and a significant career milestone for Abbott, who earned his first Tony nomination for his Broadway role.

What to watch

The couple is expected to continue their professional careers while navigating parenthood. Abbott’s Broadway run for 'Death of a Salesman' has concluded, and Plaza is set to continue her work in film and television.
