TL;DR

CBS will shorten Fire Country’s Season 5 to 13 episodes (down from 20) as part of a broader 2026–27 scripted lineup, with NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney each reduced to 10 episodes, Matlock set for 13, and showrunner Eric Guggenheim taking over Fire Country. CBS also rolled out Friday spin-offs Sheriff Country and Boston Blue and is adding new series including Cupertino, Einstein, NCIS: New York, and Eternally Yours to its slate, signaling a shift to fit more scripted programming next season.
