Idol’s New Villain? Carrie Underwood Booed for a Gentle Critique
TL;DR
Carrie Underwood’s return to American Idol has made her the season’s target, with Hollywood Week audiences booing her mild critiques. The boos were not political (despite online guesses tied to her Trump inauguration performance) but a reaction to her comments about a contestant’s song choice and use of the band. She leaned into the moment—joking that boos feed her—while fellow judge Luke Bryan offered gentler pushback, highlighting Idol’s current dynamic where judges can become the crowd’s focal point.
