Egyptian TV Presenter Sentenced to Death in Synthetic Drug Ring Case
Egyptian TV presenter Sarah Khalifa was sentenced to death by hanging in Cairo’s Criminal Court, along with 11 others, for alleged involvement in an organized drug trafficking ring that prosecutors say imported raw materials for synthetic narcotics and distributed drugs. The case involved seizures of more than 750 kilograms of narcotics and related materials. In total, 12 people received death sentences, nine were given life terms, seven were acquitted, and two defendants remain at large. Khalifa denies the charges and plans to appeal to Egypt’s Court of Cassation; she is a high‑profile host with about 2.6 million followers.
