Background

This development follows the successful launch of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' on Disney+, which garnered nearly 30 million views in its first month in 2023. The 'Kane Chronicles' trilogy shares a universe with Riordan's other works, including 'Camp Half-Blood Chronicles' and 'Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.'

How outlets are covering it

Deadline and Variety both confirm the development status and key creative roles, noting the collaboration between Riordan and Angela Robinson. Variety highlights the previous failure of a Netflix film adaptation, which stalled for two years before rights reverted to Riordan in 2024. Yahoo's coverage emphasizes the shift from a film to a series format, framing it as Disney expanding its Riordan universe beyond 'Percy Jackson.'

Why it matters

This marks Disney's continued investment in expanding Rick Riordan's mythological universe on its streaming platform, leveraging the success of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' to introduce new characters and storylines from the author's catalog.

What to watch

The series is currently in development, with no release date or cast announcements yet. The third season of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' is set to debut in November 2026.
