UK Ex-Singer Gary Glitter Faces Decades-Old Sexual Offense Charges

Britain’s former pop star Gary Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, has been charged with historical sexual offenses dating from 1978–1981 in Kensington, London, including one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault; he is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5. Glitter has a long criminal history that includes a 1997 conviction for downloading child pornography, prior deportations over abuse allegations, and a 2015 conviction for attempted rape and indecent assault that led to a 16-year sentence. He was released on license in February 2023 but recalled in March 2023, with his parole bid denied in 2025.
