Jamaican man jailed for knowingly infecting UK woman with HIV.
Jamaican-born Jermaine Scott has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in the UK for knowingly infecting a woman with HIV. Scott, who was diagnosed with the virus in 2005, did not reveal his HIV status to the victim while having unprotected sex with her in 2009, infecting her with the disease. He fled after the woman tested positive for the disease and was the subject of a police manhunt. Scott was held in 2011 but was deported to Jamaica after it was found that he had been living in the UK illegally. He was extradited to the UK in 2022 after police and medical experts established a genetic link between his strain of HIV and that of the woman he infected.
