Harvard researchers have developed a synthetic compound called cresomycin, which has shown promise in killing drug-resistant superbugs such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The compound, created through a fully synthetic process, demonstrates improved ability to bind to bacterial ribosomes, making it highly effective against a wide range of pathogenic bacterial strains. The research, supported by Harvard's Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator and a nonprofit organization, aims to develop oral antibiotics to combat drug-resistant infections and address the global health threat posed by superbugs.
