FDA finally approves first RSV vaccine after decades of attempts

The US has approved the first vaccine for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), called Arexvy, for older adults. RSV is a respiratory virus that is most dangerous for babies but also endangers older adults. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will decide in June if every senior needs RSV protection or only those considered at high risk. Pfizer's similar vaccine for older adults is also being considered for approval. RSV is a cold-like nuisance for most people but can be life-threatening for the very young, the elderly, and people with certain high-risk health problems.
