Live Microorganisms in Full-Fat Yogurt Lower Glucose Levels in Prediabetes

A recent study by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) found that increased consumption of live microorganisms, found in fermented foods, raw fruits, and vegetables, was linked to better health markers such as lower blood pressure, better blood glucose and insulin levels, lower inflammation, and lower waist circumference and body mass index. While the study did not prove causation, it suggests that dietary exposure to live microorganisms could benefit health by increasing the diversity of microbes in the gut or by supporting immune function. The trend of increased live microbe consumption may bode well for the health of the population.
